Why develop Attitude of Gratitude?
One habit that you can develop to be in a positive mindset during the lockdown is Attitude of gratitude.
Let's understand what is the Attitude of Gratitude.
An attitude of gratitude means making it a habit to express thankfulness and appreciation in all parts of your life, on a regular basis, for both the big and small things alike. "If you concentrate on what you have, you'll always have more."
Benefits of Developing an Attitude of Gratitude.
Gratitude makes you feel content.
Practicing gratitude is one of the most reliable methods for increasing contentment and life satisfaction.
It also improves mood by enhancing feelings of optimism, joy, pleasure, enthusiasm, and other positive emotions.
Conversely, gratitude also reduces anxiety and depression.
Here are 5 tips to cultivate an Attitude of Gratitude
1. Write it down.
Keep a gratitude journal. Try it for at least 21 days. Be specific about what you are thankful for. Watch how your thoughts develop over time. You may start out simply, but when you add stories and color, it becomes more powerful.
When you practice gratefulness, there is a sense of respect for others. -Dalai Lama
2. Talk about it.
Sharing what you are thankful for isn’t just for special occasions or special people. Make it a habit to talk about what you are grateful for all year long. It will reinforce your feelings.
3. Meditate.
Whether you regularly meditate or not, take a break a few times a day. Focus on a spirit of thankfulness. Who are you thankful for? Bring the person to mind. Imagine your life surrounded by blessings.
4. Express it.
Find that teacher who made a difference in your life, and tell him. Write a personal note and tell a long lost friend what she meant to you.
5. Seek it.
If you want to be thankful, get around people with that characteristic. Some people just bubble over with enthusiasm and gratitude for life. I once met an elderly lady who was exuberant about life. She was in a nursing home and could have complained for hours. Instead, she welcomed me into her room and started telling me about the birds outside her window. She was thankful for their company, for their song in the morning, and for their vibrant colors. As I listened to her, I realized that I wanted that special spark.
First thing I wake up in the morning, I am thankful that I am alive and I am thankful that I have 1 more day to learn, live, and experience. I am thankful that I am still breathing using my own lungs without any external support.
I am thankful that my family is safe and healthy during this tough time.
I am thankful that I can be with my family during Lockdown. I am thankful that I have a roof over my head. I am thankful that I am able to eat 3 meals a day.
I am thankful that I am still capable of doing my own things without depending on others.
I make it a ritual every day to write it in a book so that you will be in a positive mindset and feel grateful for what you have in this challenging time.
I want to leave you with this quote
“God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today. Have you used one of them to say thank you?”
